Every student will learn about their neighborhood and city through school/community service projects.
An interesting part of San Antonio’s history can be told in the many complex stories by those that have lived in the Jefferson area. Built for the city’s merchant and business class, the Jefferson area has transformed and evolved due to its people, geography, architecture, culture and demographic shifts. Lineages of civic leaders have graduated from the school providing a foundation for future generations to study and expand. - Part of a student’s ten (10) hour per week home learning will include community and civic service work.
Elementary and middle school aged students will participate with on-campus garden and clean-up projects on Saturday mornings. Saturday civic art days allow elementary and middle school students to communicate neighborhood history, current events and future visions through interpretive drawing, sculpture and technology. High school students will engage with city wide community service organizations for civic projects throughout the city. Jefferson Government and Law Association between students and St. Mary’s University’s Law School. Jefferson CHAMPS organizations such as the Corp of Cadets, Lassos, athletics and art organizations will engage neighborhood institutions and centers providing service time for certain gaps.
